GORDO | Shirla Emore Dyer, age 75, of Gordo, died August 31, 2015, at Northport Medical Center. Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Highland Baptist Church with Rev. Shawn McDaniel, Rev. Brannon Pinion and Rev. Glen Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.She was preceded in death by her son, Rodney Dyer; her parents; and two brothers, Buddy Elmore and Bill Elmore.Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Holly Dyer; daughter, Cyndee Books (Robert); son, Keith Dyer (Katy); sister, Mary Tilley (Mac); grandchildren, J. B. Dyer, Zeb Dyer, Call Dyer and Holly Beth Brooks; and special friend and caregiver, Patricia Howard.Shirla was born September 1, 1939 in Gordo, Alabama to the late T. O. Elmore and Mary Olivia McDaniel Elmore. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years, a retired employee of XL Manufacturing and a lifelong resident of Pickens County. Shirla loved spending time with her grandkids.Pallbearers will be Mitch Dyer, Alan Dyer, Ricky Paulk, Grant Elmore, Kenny Tilley, Doug Tilley, Michael Tilley and Ron Elmore. Honorary pallbearers are members of Highland Baptist Church and the Zion community, friends of Peco Foods, Patricia and Steve Howard, nurses and staff of DCH Regional Medical Center ICU, Pickens County Home Health Cathy Taylor, Lisa Pate and Lance Taylor, Denny and Patsy Hickman, Jerome and Peggy Hickman, Mark and Ann Hickman, Bobby and Tricia Wilburn, Harold and Margie Free, Buddy and Shirley Wilson and camping friends.
