KENNEDY Shirley Howton Wheat, age 73, of Kennedy, died Oct. 19, 2013, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marshall Sutton and Rev. Billy Carl Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Ashcraft Corner Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Wheat; her parents; sisters, Virginia Faulkner and Clauzell Crawford, and infant sister, Margaret Lafaye Howton.Survivors include her daughters, Lisa Hughes (Chris) of Kennedy, Ala., and Donna Leslie (Skip) of Alabaster, Ala.; five grandchildren, Jamie Cummings (Kayci) of Carrollton, Ala., Paige Burkhalter (Daniel) of Kennedy, Ala., Logan McCool of Gordo, Ala., Matt Cummings of Kennedy, Ala., and Taylor Butler of Alabaster, Ala.; three great-grandchildren, Brayden Cummings, Hagen and Charlie Burkhalter; and five step-grandchildren, Charlie (Kaley), Erin (Josh), Megan, Hunter, and Sophia.Mrs. Wheat was born August 4, 1940, in Kennedy, Alabama to the late Willis Howton and Jessie Mae Gilliam Howton. She was a member of Ashcraft Corner Baptist Church, a retired employee of Westinghouse and a well-known resident of Pickens County.Pallbearers will be Jamie Cummings, Matt Cummings, Logan McCool, Daniel Burkhalter, Wilson Williams, and Roy Thomas.Honorary pallbearers are Carolyn Grace, Jane Cobb, Leslie Cobb, and her friends and neighbors.
