March 21, 1944 – April 10, 2019
Willie Daniel "Sonny" Ray, age 75, of Carrollton, AL took his heavenly flight on April 10, 2019
at his residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, April 12, 2019 at Cross Roads Baptist
Church in Carrollton with Rev. Shawn McDaniel and Rev. Joe Fondren officiating. Burial will
follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will
be one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister Bonnie Sue Ray; stepmother,
Marine Ray and sister-in-law, Joyce Ray.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy Jones Ray of Carrollton, AL; his daughter,
Vicky R. Klug (Rodney) of Carrollton, AL; his son, Tony W. Ray (Rhonda) of Bethlehem, GA; three
brothers, Jackie Ray (Kathy) of Ethelsville, AL, Lavern Ray (Mary) of Carrollton, AL and Wayne Ray
(Deborah) of Carrollton, AL; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of other family
and friends.
Sonny was born March 21, 1944 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late Roy C. Ray and Alma L.
Oglesby Ray. He was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church and he retired from Baldor Electric in
Columbus, MS in 2011 with 44 years of service.
Sonny loved making music, working on old cars including his precious 1947 Ford Coupe
from the ground up. He loved spending time and making memories with family and friends.
Sonny became a child of God in 1971 and from that time he spent many hours serving his
Lord. He held several positions in his church, from music director, Sunday School and Training Union
director to being ordained as a Deacon in 1976 at Cross Roads Baptist Church in Carrollton.
Pallbearers will be Darrin Ray, Chris Ray, Joey Ray, Jason Wilkins, Tyler Wilkins, Ethan Wilkins,
Matthew Madison and Curtis Sultzbach.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Fenton, Dr. Tucker, Dr. Brooke, Dr. Sullivan, the staff of Pickens
County Medical Center, Encompass Home Health and Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Cross Roads Cemetery Fund, c/o Kaye Bonner,
56 New Providence Road, Reform, AL 35481.
