GORDO – Stanford Branyon, age 80, of Gordo, Ala., died January 29, 2017, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Gordo First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Kilgore, Rev. Ron McKay, special friend, Glenn Pate and brother-in-law, Herbby Geer officating. Burial will follow in the Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Paul Branyon and Rev. Stanley Branyon; and three sisters, Eloise Burgess, Clarice Webster and Peggy Conner.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia "Genny" Geer Branyon; daughters, Teresa Guy (Garry), Martha Junkin (Stevie) and Mary McAteer (Toby); son, Larry Branyon (Donna); sisters-in-law, Betty Branyon, Fay Elmore (David) and Ann Moorehead (Ronnie); ten grandchildren, April Shoults (Eric), Alison Wheatley (Josh), Austin Guy, Leslie Branyon, Matt Junkin, Luke Junkin (Emily), Anna Junkin, Blake McAteer (Haley), Brian McAteer and Bo McAteer; great-grandchildren, Avery McAteer, Addyson McAteer and Aiden Junkin; and a number of nieces and nephews; and special companion, Baxter.
Mr. Branyon was born April 30, 1936 in Kennedy, Alabama to the late James Curt Branyon and Annie Luther Branyon.
He was a member of Gordo First United Methodist Church and the Gordo Methodist Church Singing Men. He was the retired owner of Gordo Hardware and will-known resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will Be Austin Guy, Matt Junkin, Luke Junkin, Blake McAteer, Brian McAteer, Bo McAteer, Jimmy Branyon and David Branyon.
Honorary pallbearers are Gordo Methodist Church Singing Men, coffee drinkers at Jet Pep, Gordo High School Class of 1955 and Dr. John Summerford.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Gordo Methodist Church Singing Men, c/o Gordo First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 343 Gordo, AL 35466.
