Sylvia Louise "Sibbie" Pate, age 80, of Gordo, AL passed away May 19, 2022 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pat Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be immediately following the service at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Roger Randall "Buddy" Pate; her parents; brother Frank McDowell; sisters-in-law, Joan McDowell and Melba Wheat (J. C.) and brother-in-law, Price Elmore.
Survivors include her brother, James Larry McDowell and wife, Barbara; sisters-in-law, Linda McDowell Hill (Dr. William Hill) and June P. Elmore; nieces and nephews, Michael McDowell (Heather), Greg McDowell, John McDowell (Rachelle), Vicki Broder (O'Neal), Tony Elmore (Laura Lee), Oscar Pate (Trina) and Tina Fike (Michael); great-nieces and nephews, Mira, Max, Lucy, Savanah, Dion, Justin, Kori, Hilary, John Caleb, Landon, Gracie, Ben, Jacob, Jonathan, Matthew, Meredith, Melissa, Michael, Ben and Brian; great-great nieces and nephews, Will Jackson, Hadley and Chandler and a number of cousins..
Sibbie was born October 17, 1941 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late John William McDowell and Mary Louise Godfrey McDowell. She was a retired Administrative Assistant for the Gordo Housing Authority and a well known and loved resident of Gordo.
Pallbearers will be Oscar Pate, Michael Fike, Tony Elmore, Michael McDowell, Justin Pate, John McDowell, John Caleb Bigham, Landon Fike and Greg McDowell.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404 or St. Jude Children's Hospital Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or Gordo First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 323, Gordo, AL 35466.
