Obituary

Thomas Marvin "Tommy" White, age 84, of Gordo, AL passed away February 22, 2024 at his residence.  Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Monday, February 26, 2024 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Marvin McCormick officiating.  Burial will be in Kinard Cemetery in West Blocton with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.  Visitation will be from 10:30 am - 12:00 noon and after the service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold White.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Carol Gentry White of Gordo; daughter, Mandy Lollar (Mickey Jordan) of Tuscumbia; son, Rocky White (Denise) of Sylacauga; sister, Margaret W. Steele of Auburn and two grandchildren, Alyssa W. Jackson (Drew) and Alex E. White (fiancée, Will Green).
Tommy was born April 23, 1939 in West Blocton, Alabama to the late Lester White and Lula Mae Hutchins White.  He was a member of Sand Springs Methodist Church.  Raised in West Blocton, Mr. White excelled in football, baseball and basketball from 1953-1957. He was an All-State back in football for their 10-0 1956 State Championship team at West Blockton High School. Tommy met and married his high school sweetheart, Carol G. White on November 29, 1957.  They were married for 66 years.
Mr. White earned a football scholarship to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa from 1957-1960.  He also lettered in baseball for 3 years at UA.  He graduated with honors in 1961 with a BS in education and a Masters Degree in 1965.  His first coaching job was in 1961 at Gordo High School.  His teams excelled from 1961-1964 seasons finishing runner up in football in 1964.  Mr. White accepted a Head Coach position at Gadsden in 1965.  From there he moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma and coached at Oklahoma State as an assistant from 1966-1968.  Then he accepted a position as an assistant coach at Livingston University from 1969-1970.  Mr. White then moved to Auburn to pursue a job in the insurance business form 1971-1972.  His last coaching stop was back at Gadsden High School as head coach from 1972-Spring 1979.  His first administrative position was at Collinsville High School from 1979-1981.  Tommy and family moved to Gordo, Alabama in 1981 where they currently reside.  He became a SEC official in 1982-1999 as a field judge.  Mr. White ended his administrative career with Pickens County Schools and retired in 2001.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Belcher, Matt Holsonback, Leonard Hudson, Jim Jeter, Jon Underwood and Mike Underwood.
Honorary Pallbearers are all of his former players.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
