July 14, 1934 – March 21, 2023
Walter Travis Walker, always known by Travis, age 88, of Carrollton, AL passed away March 21, 2023 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, March 24, 2023 at Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Reform with Bro. Kevin Taylor and his grandson, Pastor Chris Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Larry Walker and Charles Walker; his parents; brothers, John, Lonnie, David, Preston and Lewis Walker and sisters, Linda Reece and Ressie Redd.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Reece Walker; daughters, Cathy Dennis (Ray) and Sandra Walker (Mike); sons, Greg Walker (Linda) and Clint Walker (Jennifer); sister, Minnie Pearl Ballenger; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Travis was born July 14, 1934 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Lewis Burt Walker and Mary Jane Lynn Walker. He was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church in Carrollton and a retired employee of Jimmy Dill Logging and Sawmill. Most of his time was spent working, vacationing in the mountains and spending time with his grandkids.
Pallbearers will be Dillon Walker, Jacob Walker, Michael Walker, Mary Beth Walker, Charlie Crew, Johnathan Smith and Richard Pettijohn.
Honorary Pallbearers are Amedisys Hospice, nurses, Nikki Hammond and Paula McDaniel, Daphne Trice, Damon Rose, Dr. Dale Robbins, nursing staff at Hospice of West Alabama, special friend, Danny Lancaster, special niece, Glenda Grace, members of Cross Roads Baptist Church and community, special friends, Gene Turner of Tuscaloosa and Wayne Sexton of Greensboro and special nephew, J. R. Walker of Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404, Cross Roads Baptist Church, c/o Clay Bonner, 56 Providence Road, Reform, AL 35481 or to Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Terry or Janice Lowe, 3190 Herbert Windle Road, Reform, AL 35481.
