May 3, 1944 – September 2, 2020
Norris Wayne Owens, age 76, of Carrollton, AL passed away September 2, 2020 at Hospice of West Alabama. Funeral services with military honors will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shawn McDaniel and Randy Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Friday, September 4, 2020 from 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home. Masks are required due to the COVID 19 Pandemic.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Hugh Warren Owens.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Joan Price Owens; daughters, Brandy Owens (Ashley Herron) and Erica James (Gary Sanford); son, Cody Owens (Kim); seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and special sisters-in-law, June, Jan, Joy and Pat.
Wayne was born May 3, 1944 in Tarpon Springs, Florida to the late Norris William Owens and Juanita Johns Owens. With a Master's degree in administration, Wayne was a teacher, coach and Principal for twenty five years with the Pickens County School System. He spent 2 years with the Peace Corps in Nigeria, was a veteran of the Alabama Army National Guard with 22 years of service and a member of the Baptist faith.
Pallbearers will be Randy Barnett, Alex Stewart, John Stepp, Elton Gibson, Jackie Ray, Simuel Latham, John McGee and Edward Owens.
Honorary Pallbearers are the alumni and faculty of Carrollton High School, Peace Corps buddies - Howard Wright and Dan Tibbs, Hospice of West Alabama staff and Aliceville High School Class of 1962.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Rise School of Tuscaloosa, P.O. Box 870305, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487 or Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 56 New Providence Road, Reform, AL 35481.
