Bill was born March 30th, 1946 in Columbus, MS. At the age of 14 he was awarded the Eagle Scout award with the Boy Scouts of America. He attended Pickens County High School and graduated High School from Marion Military Institute. He obtained his Bachelors of Science in Commerce and Business Administration at the University of Alabama. Upon graduating he and his wife Annette, moved to Montgomery, Al where he worked in the Lt. Governor's office. But his beloved Pickens County kept calling, and in 1976 he moved his family back home. In 1982 he successfully ran for Probate Judge and served as Chairman of the Pickens County Commision. During his tenure he worked hard to bring industry to the county and created the Pickens County Industrial Board. After his service as Probate Judge he accepted the position of Administrator for Pickens County Medical Center. During his time there he improved the health care services in Pickens County greatly. He oversaw the establishment of a 24/7 Emergency room, the Healthplex facility, labor and delivery unit, a satellite clinic in Millport, AL, home health agency and DME company along with bringing many other services to the hospital through the outpatient facility so Pickens County residents didn't have to travel to other cities to receive specialty care. Pickens County's healthcare needs were greatly met while he was Administrator. In his retirement he most recently served as airport manager at the North Pickens airport where he was able to enjoy his love of aviation and was able to secure several grants to improve the airport facilities and runway. Bill also served many years in the Alabama National Guard where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Most importantly though was his roles as husband, father, grandfather and friend. He cherished those close to him and would move the world to help them out if he could. He will be greatly missed by many.
