Billy was from a family that loved the Lord and their country. They were all very patriotic and his grandfather, father, and four brothers were all in the military. He was born in Carrollton on November 28, 1927. Billy joined the Marines and defended our country in World War II. He came home and married his sweetheart Colleen Acker and moved to Birmingham, AL where they raised their family. He was a gifted artist and published author. Billy was the kind of person who did not just talk about what the world needed - he got involved and changed many lives. While in Birmingham, Billy was an activist for the unborn and was part of the church's Evangelism Explosion.
Later in life, Billy moved back home to Carrollton and became a deacon at Garden Grove Baptist Church in Aliceville, AL. In his last years, his health began to decline, and he lived at the Veterans' Affairs Foster Home in Carrollton.
