Billy Sims, age 65, of Gordo, died April 29, 2014, at Northport Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Todd Burkhalter and Rev. Dan Turman officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Friday, May 2, 2014 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Rodney Sims and Rusty Sims.Survivors include his wife, Debbie Smith Sims; daughters, Lori Ann Sims, Jenn Swindle (Check) and Lanetta Weatherly; son, Shane Sims; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. Mr. Sims was born August 28, 1948 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late Joe Sims and Nettie Carolyn Strickland Sims. He was a minister for the Baptist Faith, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a well know resident of Pickens County. Pallbearers will be Eddie Appleby, Tyler Appleby, Jonathan Weatherly, Aaron Posey, Christopher Posey and Doug Sims.Honorary pallbearers are members of Flatwoods, Rock Solid, Big Hill, Mt. Pleasant and Peoples Baptist Churches, Gordo Senior Activity Center, Bro. Leonard Hill, Bro. Thomas Smothers, Bro. Ralph Smith, Bro. Jimmy Pritchett, Bro. Richard Clanton, Bro. Glenn Sandifer, Lee McCool, Glendon Skelton, Dr. Warren Holley, Dr. Debra Davis, management team of DCH Regional Medical Center, DCH staff, staff of ACCU, staff of 7 South, North River Christian School and TCO Ministries and Bro.
