GORDO | William Edward "Cricket" Walker, age 86, of Gordo, died May 18, 2014, at Salem Nursing & Rehab Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Flatwoods Baptist Church with Rev. Leonard Hill and Rev. Tommy Smothers officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight, Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Walker; his parents; daughter-in-law, Patricia Randall Wood Walker; and son-in-law, Billy Parker.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Nell Cabaniss Walker of Gordo; daughters, Kathy Walker Parker of Cottondale and Karen Walker Gissendanner Cote of Burlington, Vt.; son, Jeffrey B. Walker of Gordo; sister, Mary Nell Floyd of Gordo; grandchildren, Brandy Barrett (Jon), Tammy Walker (Katherine Douglas), Danny Walker (April), Patryck Parker, Jennifer Sexton, Cadi Sexton, Eric Gissendanner, Lindsey Walker, Lance Walker, Mandy Bowles, Shannon Bowles, Kenneth Bowles (Jennifer) and Randall Bowles (Shannon); and great-grandchildren, Hannah Barrett, Adilyn Walker, Kaitlin Cherry, Taylor Reece, Nathan Reece, Erica Stanfill (William), Katelyn Bowles and McKenzie Bowles.
Mr. Walker was born November 6, 1927 in Gordo, Alabama to the late William M. Walker and Lizzie Burkes Walker. He was a member of Flatwoods Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. William retired from Gulf States Paper with 28 years of service and from Alabama River with 15 years of service. He was also owner of Walker's Nursery and Florist, an avid gardener and a lifelong resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be Lance Walker, Patryck Parker, Jon Barrett, Danny Walker, Garry Guy, Scott Guy and Danny Gray.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Flatwoods Baptist Church, 778 Flatwoods Rd., Gordo, AL 35466.
