GORDO – Wilma E. Johnson, age 91, of Gordo, Ala., died January 18, 2018, at her daughter's residence. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Gordo First Baptist Church with Rev. Pat Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight, Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Gordo First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Hill Johnson; her parents; sisters, Annie Lou McAteer, Verda Mae Parker, Evelyn Tidmore and Levis Elmore; and brother, Floyd A. Elmore.
Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Elmore and husband, Pete, of Reform, Ala. and Betty Clay and husband, Olan, of Gordo; grandchildren, Katie and Bryan Porter, Kellie and Chad Pugh and Kasey and Ashleigh Clay; great-grandchildren, Addie Grace Porter, William Garrett Pugh, Jackson Clay Porter and Konner Drake Pugh; special great-grandchild, Ella Rae Owens; sisters, Trudie Billings of Northport, Ala. and Leola Thornton of Social Circle, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Wilma was born on September 11, 1926 in Gordo, Alabama to the late William Claudious Elmore and Mamie Jordan Mustin Elmore. She was a member of Gordo First Baptist Church, a retired teacher at Gordo Elementary School with 30 years of service and a lifelong resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Woolbright, Brandon Herring, Frank Elmore, Danny Duffy, Albert Owens and Collin Herring.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. and Mrs. Jon Sanford, Paul ""Doobie"" Clay, Tom Rodgers, Kerry Shipp, Henry Elmore, members of Gordo First Baptist, friends of Gordo, the staff of Pickens County Primary Care, Dr. Honea and Mandy Browning Mims.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Gordo First Baptist Church, Christmas Shoe Box Ministry, P. O. Box 323, Gordo, AL 35466.
