ALICEVILLE | Wilmer M. Snoddy, age 84, of Aliceville, died July 1, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Franconia-Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Thomas G. Kay, Jr. officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Horace Hammett.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Estes Snoddy; daughter, Ginny Lee; son, Hugh Snoddy (Brenda); three grandchildren, Summer McLelland (Pru), Lauren Strawn (Michael) and Luke Snoddy; three great-grandchildren, Oliver McLelland, Digges McLelland, and Libby Strawn; brother, Thomas H. Snoddy (Betty); sister, Mary Virginia Hammett; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Wilmer was born September 10, 1929 in Pleasant Ridge, Alabama to the late Samuel M. Snoddy and Mary Digges Summerville Snoddy. He was a member of Aliceville First Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Wilmer was one of the first three employees hired by Huyck Felt Company when it opened in Aliceville in 1956, working there until the plant closed in 1992. He then retired to a very active life of gardening, hunting, spending time with family and friends and helping others.
Pallbearers will be Luke Snoddy, Pru McLelland, Michael Strawn, Mike McDaniel, Ken Gates, Willie Gilleylen, and J. T. Junkins.
Honorary pallbearers are former employees of Huyck Felt Company and Dr. Jay Parker.
