ELROD – Zettie Mae Poole, age 97, of Elrod, Ala., died May 9, 2018, at her home. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Damon Rose and Rev. Danny Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Backbone Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Poole; her parents; and brothers, Ward, Wilburn and Gene Ferguson.
Survivors include her daughters, Wanda Pate, Rubye Riffe (Ron), Doris Fleming and Mattie Mae Powell; sons, Kenny Poole (Betty) and Joe Poole (Beth); sister, Mollie Sweat; brother, Charles Ferguson (Linda); sister-in-law, Goldie Ferguson; 15 grandchildren, Michael, David, Shane, Sharon, Robin, Rebecca, Tammie, Tommie, Alanna, Houston, JoAnna, Kevin, Anita, Brenda and Timothy; 32 great-grandchildren; 12 fifth generation great-great-grandchildren; and her special pet, Buddy.
Mrs. Poole was born June 18, 1920 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Henry Ward Ferguson and Sally Mae Walker Ferguson. She was a homemaker and a member of Gordo Church of God of Prophecy.
Zettie was a volunteer with the West Alabama Food Bank for eleven years. She was an avid reader and collector of Victorian dolls and also salt and pepper shakers of which she had a total of 4000 until she stopped counting.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers are Gordo Church of God of Prophecy church family, friends of Elrod community and employees of Amedisys Hospice and Home Health.
