CARROLLTON – Helene Elizabeth Kelley Griffin, age 98, of Carrollton, Ala., died August 9, 2016 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2016 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Winders officiating. Burial will follow in Carrollton City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately after service at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirk Alvin Griffin; son, Ronald Kirk ""Ronnie"" Griffin; granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Gibson; son-in-law, James H. ""Jim"" Ammons,; and her parents.
Survivors include her daughters, Serena Griffin Ammons of Dacula, Ga.; and Janice Griffin Speed (Roy) of Fairhope, Ala.; son, Larry W. ""Butch"" Griffin (Lana) of Helena, Ala.; daughter-in-law. Shirley Griffin of Pickensville, Ala.; granddaughters, Stacy Jones (Tim), Kelly Ammons-Johnson (Mike), Julia Ammons and Angie Brewer (Jamie); grandsons, Stephen K. Griffin (Megan) and Larry W. Griffin, Jr. (Shannon); and 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great- grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Helene was born September 9, 1917 in Cullman, Ala. to the late Needham Kelley and Myrtie Jane Reeder Kelley. She was the oldest living member of Carrollton Baptist Church and a retired dietician for Pickens County Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Casey Jones, Reid Ammons, Augie Parrinello, Kyle Stephens, Steaphan Griffin, and Griffin Brewer.
Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Griffin and Aaron Griffin.
